The company now known as Assurant Health began in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1892 as the La Crosse Mutual Aid Association. Assurant Health is a division of Assurant traded on the S&P 500 on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AIZ. In 1900, the Company relocated its headquarters to Milwaukee and changed its name to the Time Indemnity Company and there after to Time Insurance Company. Assurant Health has become a leading developer and provider of individual medical, small group, short term, and student health insurance products through is acquisitions, most notably John Alden in 1998, and State Farm Insurance

For most of the 20th century, the company was known as Time Insurance but is know and or marketed today as Assurant Health.
